For a long time, there were only a few ways to enjoy cannabis. One of the most common, to this day, is smoking. Edibles, cannabis brownies, in particular, were another well-known product. Today, however, users have several options, including concentrates. One of the best ways to enjoy them is by dabbing them. Here’s what you need to know about how to dab concentrate for a great experience.
What Are Concentrates?
Concentrates are pretty much what they sound like, concentrated cannabis products. Manufacturers use processes to pull cannabinoids from the physical plant material, which concentrates them into a substantially more potent form than the original flowers. Where buds have up to 30% THC, concentrates can have upwards of 90% to 99% THC. That potency means that you don’t need much to achieve the desired results. A very small amount can go a long way.
During a trip to the dispensary, you might see concentrates under various names, including:
- Budder/Badder
- Crumble
- Shatter
- Wax
- Sugar
While they bear different names, they’re all concentrates. Manufacturers use a few different methods to create them. The result is products with different textures, which can range from runny to crumbly to brittle.
What Is Dabbing?
You can use concentrates for a variety of applications. Many users like to add them to their joints or bowls for a little extra kick. Some make edibles with them or vape them through a concentrate vape pen.
One of the most popular methods of use for concentrates is dabbing. Dabbing involves the use of a dab rig, a device that’s similar to a bong. It has a downstem, which travels to a water-filled base. The water acts as a filter, removing contaminants before the smoke travels up through the mouthpiece and into your lungs.
How to Dab Concentrate
At first glance, a dab rig might look a bit intimidating. Once you get the hang of it, though, the process is pretty simple, and it’s a lot of fun.
Heat the Nail
The first thing that you need to do is get a tiny amount of concentrate on your dab tool. Then, you’ll need to heat the nail. The nail is where you’ll place your concentrate. Most nails require the use of a blowtorch to heat them, while e-nails heat up electronically.
Apply Your Concentrate
Depending upon the material of the nail, you need to let it cool for 10 to 45 seconds. Once slightly cooled, place your mouth on the mouthpiece and apply the concentrate to the heated surface. Begin pulling in to draw the smoke into the base, but don’t inhale completely just yet. Rotate the dab tool to get all of your concentrate from the tool.
Inhale and Enjoy
When there’s sufficient smoke in the base, inhale the rest of the way, bringing the smoke into your lungs. You don’t have to hold it in. You can let the smoke out as soon as you take it. Then, sit back and enjoy.
